| Show A MATHEMATICAL MACHINE Sums Tabulated and Computed by an Arithmometer A new machine for setting down figures fig-ures and recording results has been put in the county clerks office The machine appears to be a sort of combination com-bination between the typewriter and the comptometer There is a keyboard key-board representing all the figures in such form that any sum up to a million lion may be registered by touching the proper keys A sheet of paper put in as in a ordinary typewriter receives the impression of the character represented repre-sented on the key touched I an error er-ror in pressing the key Is made the same may be corrected befor the Imprint Im-print is made as the pressing of the keys simply throws the proper character char-acter into position and the imprint is made by throwing forward a lever The same movement also adjusts the paper for another line immediately below the former one When the entire column of figures have been recorded the fgres ben te operator op-erator simply presses a convenient key and moves the lever Immediatly the correct total of the figures Is set down Its accuracy Is absolute The cost of the instrument is 5375 |
