PRUNE BREAD ': cup shortening 1 cup sugar 2 eggs, well beaten Vi cup dried prunes, cooked and chopped 2 cups sifted flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp cinnamon !': cup milk ': cup chopped nuts CREAM SUGAR and shortening shor-tening together. Add the beaten eggs and prunes. Sift dry ingredients and add aher-na;ely aher-na;ely with milk. Makes one loaf. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour or until done. SOFT PRUNE COOKIES 2 cups brown sugar 1 cup margarine 2 eggs beaten ': cup milk 3; : cups sifted flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp. cinnamon V: tsp allspice 1: tsp salt 2 cups cooked chopped prunes 1 cup nuts 1 tsp. vanilla CREAM SUGAR and margarine mar-garine together and add the beaten eggs. Stir in the milk. Sift the dry ingredients together and stir into creamed mixture. Add prunes, nuts and vanilla. Mix well together. Drop by teaspoon on greased cookie sheet two inches in-ches apart. Bake at 350 degrees de-grees for 15 minutes. Cool on racks. Frost with orange frosting. ORANGE FROSTING 3 cups powdered sugar 2 Tbsp. melted butter 2 Tbsp. orange juice 1 Tbsp. grated orange rind MIX TOGETHER and frost cookies. ORANGE PRUNE MUFFINS 2 cups quick mix (Bisquick) 4 Tbsp. brown sugar 1 egg 23 cup milk 1 Tbsp. melted margarine Vi cup cooked chopped prunes 2 Tbsp. grated orange peel tsp cinnamon STIR SUGAR into mix. Beat egg and add milk and melted margarine. Add prunes and orange peel to liquid. Add cinnamon cin-namon to dry ingredients. Add liquid to dry ingredients and stir about 15 strokes or until blended. Do not over mix our muffins. muf-fins. Bake in well greased muffin muf-fin pans at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Serve hot, makes 12. PRUNE CAKE 2 cups white sugar 1 cup cooking oil 3 eggs 1 cup cooked prunes chopped chop-ped fine 1 cup buttermilk 1 tsp. soda 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp salt 1 tsp nutmeg 1 : tsp cloves 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp allspice Vi cup prune juice from cooked prunes 1 cup chopped nuts MIX OIL and sugar well, add eggs and beat well. Add the remainder of the ingre-Jients ingre-Jients and mix well. Bake in baking pan 9x13 inches that has been greased and floured at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. Frost w ith a butter and powdered pow-dered sugar frosting. Note: I save the peels of oranges and dry them. When they are brittle I put them in the blender and blend until fine. 1 use this in place of orange peel in cooking, using one-half as much as it calls for in the recipe. If you are planning plan-ning to save the peel for drying, be sure to wash the orange and wipe dry before peeling. |
