Show . By MARK D. MICKELSEN BOUNTIFUL The Bountiful City Council has endorsed plans to replace several sev-eral hundred thousand squares of ceramic tile which are popping up off the floor at the Bountiful Recreation Center, 150 W. 600 N. CITY MANAGER Tom Hardy told council coun-cil members Wednesday night that water is seeping under tiles in the center's dressing rooms, forcing the ceramic to lift off the concrete surface below. He said one of the problems is that when the city decided to replace carpeting in the dressing rooms with tile, some of the glue used to secure the carpet was left on the floor. As a result, some of the tiles were not properly attached to the surface. MAYOR PRO-tem Paul Allen said when the parks and recreation committee visited the center and viewed the problems in the dressing rooms, they recommended that the tiles be replaced. U According to Mr. Hardy, plans call for the extraction of the exisiting tiles. Once they are removed, the floor surface will be cleaned and any carpet glue substances taken off. THE COST is in the replacement of the tiles. Mr. Hardy said the project will cost $10,240, and recommended that the money be taken out of the Recreation Replacement Replace-ment Fund. Councilwoman Phyllis Southwick asked if any of the old tiles could be salvaged, but was told the tiles are small and because of damage unsalvageable. THE CITY council unanimously approved the project. A bid of $10,240 from the Norm Ensign Tile Company of Bountiful Bounti-ful has been accepted. According to recreation superintendent Neil Jenkins, work has already been completed com-pleted on the women's dressing rooms and is progressing on the men's side. Officials say the entire project should be completed before the middle of February. |
