Show ffhrns nil! nnnf Dsrujuillo: lost Saino By DAVE WIGHAM BOUNTIFUL -- Viewmont football coach Monte Jones is wondering what his clubs mental attitude wilt be this Wednesday when the Vikes take on Bonneville in the final league game for both clubs. THE CONCERN of the coach is that no matter if the Vikings win or lose they are through for the season when the whistle sounds to end this game. On the other hand the Lakers, win or lose, will go into a playoff for a state tournament tour-nament berth as the number two team from the region. "Our kids will either come out and want to win so they can end the season as winners, or they'll have the idea that the season can't end soon enough. I honestly think these players we have will want to go out as winners." THE GAME was moved up to Wednesday at the request of the Bonneville people to give them more time to prepare for their playoff with Region Three number four team. Coach Jones wants to see Region One clubs do the best they can in the playoffs so he agreed to the move up. Last week the Vikings went into the Roy game knowing a win would put them in a position to earn a playoff berth but a couple of dropped passes and some other errors eliminated them from post season competition. "Naturally "Na-turally the kids are down somewhat after the loss to Roy but they'll bounce back and find the pride to play the Lakers a tough game." BONNEVILLE has been a surprise team in the league to some people and the Lakers have gotten better as the season has progressed. Their only league loss, for the entire season for that matter, was to Layton in a close ballgame on the Lancer field. The main offensive weapons for the Bonneville club has been their two running backs, Marvin Ellis and Curtis Lindsay, both of whom are ranked high by opposing coaches. Three weeks ago though the Bonneville coaches handed the quarterbacking job over , to sophomore Cory Sylvester and all of a sudden the Lakers have a good passing attack to go along with the running. Cory is the son of Blaine Sylvester, who used to coach at South High and at Weber State and who is still a top rated official. THIS PASSING and running run-ning double threat offense of the Lakers will test the Viking defense but their defense has held up all year and should turn in another great performance perfor-mance this week. The Viking defense has only allowed 69 points to be scored on them all year in league play, which figures out to be about 11 points a game, which is second only to Layton in the league stats. Linebacker Craig Corry has been the main plug in the Vikings defense. During the past few weeks Craig has been assigned to control the likes of John Luddington and Fred Fernandes, and will be called upon again this week to contain the Lakers' backs. Jim Miller has been a stopper in the defensive secondary this season and will be counted count-ed on to stop the Bonneville passing game. Scott Smoot and Don Carroll will also help to stop the Laker offense. OFFENSIVELY Jim Miller has taken over the quarter-backing quarter-backing spot for the Vikes since Ryan San ford has been lost with a bruised leg injury he suffered against Bountiful. Jim has played well throwing for over 100 yards against Roy last week. Larry Fry continues con-tinues to be the workhorse on the ground for Coach Jones. Coach Jones knows what the Vikings have to do to beat the Lakers, "control the ball on offense and contain their two good backs on defense. Not only do we not know what our own team's mental state will be, but think of the Bonneville Bon-neville club. What will they be like since win or lose they finish second in the league standings. TRUE THE mental status of both clubs will have a lot to do with the outcome of this game. Viewmont has the type of players who want to win, Bonneville might just be going go-ing through motions.
