Show Leaves Neeti Wm To Come lei Ttoiird By DAVE WIGHAM BOUNTIFUL - Usually the last game of the season doesn't mean that much to either of the teams involved, one has secured a playoff berth while the other can hang up the helmets after the game. However when the Bountiful team travels to Weber the Braves will be very much aware of what a win or a loss will do to them. TRUE THE Braves have secured a playoff for a state tournament berth but their position is still up in the air. If the Braves win this game then they will enter the playoff system as the number three team from the region. A loss along with a Roy win would put the Braves in the playoffs as the fourth place team. When you consider the third place team will face Hillcrest in the playoff and the fourth place squad faces Skyline, this game suddenly becomes a big win for Bountiful. BIG CONCERN for Bountiful Boun-tiful coach, Paul Waite, will be the mental attitude of his troops following their loss to Layton last week. The Braves had one of those nights where everything they did was wrong while their opponents had things pretty much the way they wanted to have them. This group of players though are used to winning and should bounce back in good shape for the Weber contest. Weber is one of those teams that has shown a great defense in the league play while their offense has generated very little. The Warrior D has held their opponents op-ponents to just 80 points in their six league games, an average of just over 13 a game, but their offense has only managed to put 45 points on the board for an average of just over 7 points a ballgame. PART OF the trouble has been with injuries where the Warriors have lost two quarterbacks quar-terbacks for the season already and one of their top running backs has been missing due to a bad leg since their first league game. Bountiful on the other hand has been productive on offense of-fense putting up 120 points on their side of the ledger, an average of 20 per outing, while giving up 98 to their opponents, an average of 16 an outing. ON THE injury side of the Braves, tight end and defensive defen-sive end Scott Stewart should be ready to go against the Warriors but defensive back Danny Glenn is a question mark following a concussion against Layton. Two big problems for the Bountiful team to overcome will be the Warriors top players in Mark Montgomery and Bryce Thorpe. Both these players are best known for their basketball ability but both have turned into excellent ex-cellent football players this season. Montgomery is extremely effective from his defensive tackle spot while Thorpe is a big target on passes. OFFENSIVELY the Braves should be able to move the football against the 5-2 defense employed by the Warriors. John Luddington, coming ofl a sore ankle, should have a good day with Brad LaComb and Mike Krammer ready to assist in the running game. Jim Perkins has turned into a deep threat through the airways air-ways for the Braves which has to keep the defense honest at all times. Defensively the Braves will look to linebackers Steve Aste, Ryan Hodges, Ron Graham, Eddie Fowles to contain the Warrior offense. Weber runs out of the l-for- mation with the tailback doing do-ing the bulk of the running. WEBER MIGHT have given the Braves some problems had this game not meant much to the two clubs, but with third or fourth place waiting the outcome of this game, the Bountiful club has all the incentive they need to get up for the Warriors. Bountiful simply has too much talent for the Weber club, look for a Brave win and a third place playoff finish. |
