Show Two Firo Alarms. The fire department responded to two calls yesterday. The quick response re-sponse of Chief Bywater and his firefighters fire-fighters to the first call, at 11:16 a. m., saved the residence of Mrs. Jane L. Williams, 52 Grape street. The corner of the house was all ablnze when the department arrived, but ty. fire waa quickly extinguished and no material loss was sustained. The blaze was caused by a bonfire which set some grass surrounding the house afire and communicated It to the building. The second rim. at 3 o'clock jn the afternoon, to Social avenue, just above the Elks' buildings, wus In response lo a false alarm. A subsequent investigation investi-gation proved that the gloss covering the key pocket' had been broken soma time ago. Some small girls noticed the dangling key and from sheer curiosity placed it in the alarm box and turned In a call. |
