THE meetings were held in San Francisco. Purpose of the Auxiliary is to educate the public in proper foot health care. Mrs. Gold suggests the following areas which sould be of concern when rendering foot care. BACK TO school - parents should pay special consideration considera-tion in choosing new school shoes for the up coming school year. Shoes should give proper support and stay away from the fad shoes. Babies and children -provide exercise for baby daily and change baby's posi- I I j llJt Asi JANET GOLD tion several times a day. Choose the correct shoe size for children. SHOES OR other foot wear should never be handed down because each pair of feet has its own fitting requirement. Watch for toeing in and toeing out, and other gait abnormalities. abnor-malities. Teenagers - wear the proper shoe for the proper activity. Tennis shoe-sports, ballet shoe-dance, etc. Going barefoot is a healthy activity under the right conditions. However walking barefoot on dirty pavements or littered ground can expose feet to injury in-jury and other types of foot problems. DEAR PARENTS - you worry ... about your child's teeth, eyes, and many other pans of the body. You teach washing, brushing and grooming but what do you do about your child's feet .... those still developing feet which will have to carry the entire weight of the body through a lifetime of stand ing, walking and running. Many adult foot ailments, like other bodily ills, have their origins in childhood. FURTHER, THAT periodic professional attention and regular foot care can minimize these problems in later life. Neglecting foot health invites in-vites problems in other parts of the body, such as the legs and back. There can also be undesirable personality effects. ef-fects. THE YOUNGSTER with troublesome feet walks awkwardly, awk-wardly, and usually has poor general posture. As a result, the growing child may become shy, introverted, and avoid athletics and social functions. Consultation between the podiatrist, pediatrician and other medical specialists helps to resolve these related problems. Mrs. Gold stressed that many people feel they have to live with their foot problems. This is not in reality true, we do not have to live with our foot problems. Podiatrist are highly trained in foot care and can aid you in any problem you might have with your feet. MRS. GOLD is the wife of Dr. Glenn S. Gold Jr. who is in private practice in Bountiful Boun-tiful and at Tanner Memorial Clinic in Layton. |
