Show Garden Questions Q.: I have a small snail-like covered worm in my garden and on the side of my house, what is it, and how do I control con-trol them? A.: FROM your description, descrip-tion, I would say that you have the small casebearer, or sometimes called the garden bagworm. They will devour some plants, some they will cause white spots to shew on the leaves of plants, including fruits and vegetables. THEY CRAWL along carrying this gray-dirt type shell over them. After they will attach themselves to the wall, eaves or screen of the house. Carbaryl (Sevin) is the chemical recommended for control. Q.: I planted a new lawn this spring and it is full of weeds. Should I pull them out or start over by killing my lawn and replanting. A.: Neither! Yoti would be one in a thousand if you planted a new lawn and didn't have weeds. Most of these weeds are annual weeds and will not stand continued mowing and a thick lawn. FERTILIZE to give your lawn a good chance and cut your lawn high, about 2 inches, and the weeds will disappear. Next spring you will have a weed free lawn if good management steps are taken. |
