Show ' Urn ERNEST A. HAYES Open House At 100 The family of Emest Hayes will honor him with an open house, to celebrate his 100th birthday, on Aug. 24, at the home of his son Ernest H., 234 E. Mill St., Bountiful from 4 to 7 p.m. No gifts please. ERNEST Abraham Hayes was bom in Gorsehill, Wltshr, England, Aug. 28, 1875 to James Hayes and Louisa Davis. He was the eighth child born in a family of two girls and seven boys. Ernest worked in a brass factory, near his home, as a young boy. This was not uncommon in those days. He also attended school. He came to America with his father and brother Harry in 1892. They arrived in New York, in April of that year after sailing for two weeks, all were extremely sea sick throughout the journey. JAMES HAYES had previously joinded the LDS Church so he came to his country for that reason. Ernest Er-nest was baptized a member, Nov. 28, 1908. . He married Francis Adeline Harrison, daughter of Thomas Harrison and Francis Adeline Walton on Aug. 18, 1898. This was later solemnized solem-nized in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 4, 1918. Fanny died on Nov. 2, 1954. ERNEST AND Fanny had eight children, three girls and five boys, four of whom are still living. Emest H., Frank, Mrs. Charles W. Halford (Eva) and Mark. He has 24 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. ERNEST HAS lived in Bountiful most of his 100 years. He moved to Ammon, Ida. with his bride in 1898, had his first four children there then moved back to Bountiful in 1907. He has been a farmer and brick mason most of his life. When he first came to Bountiful, Boun-tiful, he with his father and brother Harry, operated a brick kiln just west of Five Points on 1500 So. Ernest has samples of his excellent masonry, all over the valley. HE ALSO has a green thumb and was an expert farmer and gardener. His beautiful yard, when he was able to work, was a credit to the neighborhood. He made the brick and built the home in which he lived and raised most of his family at 1410 So. 400 E. ERNEST NOW resides at the Bonneville Nursing Home in Salt Lake City. |
