Ashtor, a member of The Council of The Twelve of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak at the Bountiful Utah Heights Stake Conference Saturday and Sunday, Sun-day, Aug. 30-31, in Bountiful. ELDER MARVIN J. Ashton, Ash-ton, long prominent in youth leadership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), was named a member of the Council Coun-cil of the Twelve on Dec. 2, 1971. Elder Ashton is presently serving as an adviser to the Church's Internal Communications Com-munications under which comes all publications, translation, distribution of supplies and instructional materials, correlation functions. func-tions. HE IS also adviser to Physical Facilities which supervises building and maintenance of church properties, real estate, and security. He is a member of the General Church Expenditure Expendi-ture Committee. He has served as a national committeeman of the Boy Scouts of America and on the regional executive council and the executive committee of the Great Salt Lake Council. He holds the Silver Bear and. Silver Antelope Scouting awards for outstanding service ser-vice to boys, and is an Eagle Scout. ELDER ASHTON, as a Utah State senator, spearheaded legislation for improved juvenile detention facilities. In 1960 he was chairman of the Leasure Time Division of the White House Youth Conference for the State of Utah. He served a church mission in Great Britain from 1937-39. He has traveled world-wide as a youth conference, fireside, and youth leadership director and speaker. In 1969 he was awarded the Homer "Pug" Warner medal for outstanding service and example to youth. PROFESSIONALLY he serves as Chairman of the Board of Deseret Book Company Com-pany and on the board of directors of First Security Corporation, Dan's Food Stores, Oneida Investment Company, and Alta Lumber Company. ' He was born in Salt Lake ' City May 6, 1915, a son of Marvin O. and Rae J. Ashton. He is a University of Utah graduate in business administration. adminis-tration. HE MARRIED Norma Bernston in the Salt Lake Temple in 1940 and they are the parents of four children. |
