PAYNE 295-4287 In just five days, school bells will bring an end to a carefree summer for young people of the area, and studies and school cirriculum will be the major force curriculum and school curriculum will be the major force each day. Lots have just returned from brief around the state tours, or taken to the airways or buses for lengthy vacations. Tom am Marian Yates and two daughters joined her parents, Mr. and Mrs.Eph Evans of Orem for several days fishing and camping at Flaming Gorge. Joe and Shirley Hendry, Rud and Evelyn Ballinger and Kay and Coralie Nelson enjoyed en-joyed a three day fishing adventure ad-venture to Strawberry. Mrs. Jean Brown, Mrs. Geneve Bellew and Mrs. Irene Argyle returned home from a tour of the east coast and pioneer trails as they visited the Hill Cumorah Pagent and other places of interest along the way. Mrs. Brown stopped in Woodbridge, Va to visit with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown, before her arrival home. The Herbert Baileys and the Milton Parks returned home recently from an 18 day tour and 5700 miles of bus travel. ' They joined with four bus loads of tourists headed for Hill Cumorah Pageant. They traveled to pioneer trail through Winter Quarters, Nebraska, Illinois, the Kirtland Temple area and Niagra Falls. At the pageant, they visited with the Park's son, Elder Kevin Park and enjoyed festivities of the pageant. In Rochester, New Your they visited wth Mrs. Pat Weeks brother and family, and also stopped at the Martin Harris home to visit Dean and Verda McFarland. Onto New York and Time Square, U. N. headquarters and escorted tours throughout the city. A trip to the Nation's Capitol was followed by Gettysburg, Springfield, 111. and the Carthage Jail. Ken and Dot Bailey have returned re-turned home after an extensive exten-sive trip which took then to Yorkshire, England where they visited with Mr. Bailey's mother and other relatives and friends in their native land. The Larry Landwards have returned home following a vacation to Lake Tahoe and areas near Sacramento, California during the past two weeks. It was off to Yellowstone Park for Steve and Carla Curtis Cur-tis and family. They enjoyed the animals and all the interesting activities at the Park, and enjoyed a stop at Bear Lake on their return trip home. Parents of preschoolers pre-schoolers those who will be ready for kindergarten in '76. A pre-school program for four years olds is scheduled for the South Bountiful School during the coming year. The session is scheduled to begin in early September and registration is necessary previous to the starting date. Chad Adams was the center of attraction on Thursday evening, when members of his family, plus grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, enjoyed en-joyed a birthday party in his honor at the Dwight Adams home. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Stone enjoyed a vacation in Denver, Colorado this past week-end. They visited with friends and toured the mile high city and surrounding areas before returning re-turning home. Their children were cared for by'relatives during their absense. A new Bishopric for South Bountiful First Ward was sustained sus-tained on Sunday. Perry Jordan Jor-dan will be Bishop, with Kent Holbrook and Jerry Larrabee as Counselors. Rex Kerr will serve as Executive Secretary. Jim Nelson will remain as Ward Clerk, with Gene Ban-garter Ban-garter and Leo Beecher as assistants. as-sistants. Many friends of former residents, Paul Pearson and family, were in Hunter on Sunday to attend a special Honor Night and Open House for the Pearson's daughter, Miss Robyn Pearson, who has accepted a call to serve an LDS Mission to New Zealand. She will enter the Mission Home on Saturday. Special get well wishes are sent to Bishop Vern Salter. He is responding to treatment, treat-ment, but is still recuperating from surgery and added infection. in-fection. Mary Skelton, Woods Cross Camp Director for many years, and Bountiful East Stake Director for years prior to her Woods Cross assignment, assign-ment, was presented a special quilt,. with names and work completed by the girls attending attend-ing stake camp this year. As usual, the event was one of outstanding events, which included special spirituality, camping, hiking, and program presentations. Assisting As-sisting Mrs. Skelton this year was Mrs. LuJean Eamshaw, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Couch, and Ward and Stake officers and teachers. Mrs. Zola Anderson returned re-turned home following a lengthy stay in South Davis Hospital where she was treated treat-ed for a heart condition. Mrs. Anderson is the wife of Joe Anderson. Karla Anderson, Kathy and Janea Howard, accompanied by Mrs. June Howard, spent four days at Brigham Young attending Adult Education Week and activities in conjunction con-junction with class study of both spiritual and educational value. Sorry to have Craig and Martha Malcolm leave the area. They have been residing in the Charles Pettit home on 1500 South 900 West. They have purchased a home in South Salt Lake. Also leaving the area Vern and Dorothy Jones, who have recently built a new home in the Val Verda area. They formerly for-merly resided in Westwood Subdivision. Welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Kirk and family. They have purchased a home in Ridgeview Subdivision after living in Bountiful for the past several years. Mr. Kirk is the son of Dick and Jerry Kirk, former Cahoon Acres residents. The Stake Young Adults enjoyed en-joyed the past week-end water skiing and touring the Sand Dunes in the Delta area. Deon Webster, daughter of Bishop and Mrs. Max Webster has been sustained Young Women's leader for the group taking Becky Cahoon's position posi-tion who was released recently. Mike Lallis is leader for the young men. Congratulations to Mary Jo McMillian. She was crowned Miss Congeniality of the Miss Davis County Fair contest. Maryjo is the daughter of M rs. Betty McMillian and recently was crowned first runner-up to Miss Teen Utah. She recently graduated from Viewmont this past May and plans to continue her education at the 'U' this fall in the field of education. Her special intersts include modeling, dance, and drama. She gave a dramatic reading for the talent portion of the contest, and has attended pre-contest pre-contest activities throughout the county prior to the Saturday Satur-day judging. |
