Show LIVING IN ESCAL ANTE VALLEY Where's the Wagon ?, A fire in the modem farm! home on what is known as thej Bernus Barlow place, which is currently the residence of the Harry Randall family, once again raised the question of the Es-calante Es-calante Valley's fire engine, still sitting in the Iron County road shop waiting for repairs. Fortunately the fire, caused by an overheated furnace, did only smoke and heat damage. However, How-ever, if it had been of a serious; nature the crew of volunteers who turned out to fight it equip-! ped with only hand tools and a. couple of fire extinguishers! would have been able to do very' I little. The fire engine has been in the county shop in Cedar City for several months and money for replacing the engine In it was appropriated by the Iron County Commissioners quite a long time age. During the period since the engine was purchased for the valley it has never been In usable us-able condition despite the fact that one farm home was completely com-pletely razed by fire and numerous numer-ous hay stacks and outbuildings have burned to the ground. The crew at the county shop Is undoubtedly un-doubtedly kept busy with the maintenance of other county equipment but it is felt that some-j thing should be done to expedite expe-dite the repair of the fire engine en-gine in order to protect the lives, property and welfare of the residents resi-dents of the Escalante Valley. UNIDENTIFIED HUNTERS DOING VALLEY GOOD TURN A group of unidentified Las Vegas Hunters appear to have declared war on the rabbit population pop-ulation of the Escalante Valley. Each week end one or more car loads of hunters from the Nevada Neva-da city turn up in the uncultivated uncultivat-ed sections of the valley and go to work on the rabbits. So far as can be determined there have been no reports of any of these men shooting near or toward dwellings or livestock, and they have been very careful not to Infringe on farmer's rigM.. Whoever Who-ever they are, they arc doing the valley a great service by reducing reduc-ing the number of rabbits here. |
