Show Valley Lions Nominate Applegate for Office The Escalante Valley Lions Club has nominated its Immediate Immed-iate past president, Don Apple-gate, Apple-gate, for the position of district governor. Mr. Applegate served two terms as president of the club, and during those two years the club placed third and sixth out of the 2G clubs in the district dis-trict In the membership and community service competition. In 1957-58 he served as zone chairman of Zone F in Region i Three, and during this time the five clubs In this zone were all rated within the top nine places among the 26 clubs In the district. dis-trict. This year Mr. Applegate 1 has been serving his second year Ion the district governor's cabinet, cabin-et, acting In the capacity of deputy de-puty district governor. Mr. Applegate had been nominated nom-inated for this same position last year but declined to run because he felt that he had not had sufficient experience on, the district cabinet to qualify him for the position. This year he has accepted the nomination and named Otto Fife, the club's cur-I cur-I rent president, to act as his cam-i cam-i paign manager. Don Applegate was born in CIrcleville, Piute County. He obtained ob-tained his bachelor's degree In education from College of Southern South-ern Utah, and has done college work at Utah State University and the University of Utah. He Is now completing his eighth vear as a teacher, six of which have been spent as principal ; . . DON APPLEGATE of the Escalante Valley Elementary Elemen-tary School. The Escalante Valley Lions Club ha? been very active in community betterment. During the time that Don Applegate served the group as president It undertook a number of very worthwhile projects. One of the most noteworthy was the sponsorship spon-sorship of Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops In the valley. Other projects of Importance begun ul-der ul-der Mr. Applegate's leadership were the purchase of eye glasses for a number of boys and girls, and help in financing the training train-ing of a fellow Lion who need ed a seeing-eye aog; setung up the annual turkey shoot and deer hide collection contests, which this year alone netted the club close to $600; the purchase and installation of street lights for the elementary school and community building, for the recreation rec-reation hall at Modena, and of light bulbs for the Newcastle recreation area, and the purchase pur-chase of equipment and library books for the Escalante Valley School. |
