VORLAGE AND STRAIGHT RUNNING You are now an accomplished climber, and by means of the side step or herringbone you can gain the top of iny hill. So, lets climb a rather gentle slope, which has a level spot at the top. Now do a kick turn.1 You are now almost ready to make your first downhill run. i The proper body position or VORLAGE should be practiced; at this time. The key word to body position Is RELAXATION.! Follow each of the succeeding I steps carefully. The end result is what is known as vorlage. I STEP 1 Place your skis parallel par-allel now advance one ski about 4 to C nches ahead of the other. STEP 2 Bend your knees and ankles slightly. Rock forward until you are holding your weight by your toes. STEP 3 Lift your head, look straight forward, and at the same time rock back slightly, placing your weight on the balls of your feet. STEP 4 Your hands are now brought forward and together and allowed to hang comfortably about waist high. The tips of 'your poles are pointed safely to .the rear. Relax. While you are In this position ' give yourself a little push with your poles and start your downhill down-hill run. Relax. Let your head I control the position of your body. I If you feel your weight getting I too far forward move your head back. If you feel yourself falling backward quickly move your head forward. Relax! ' Keep your weight centered on (the balls of your feet. Do not 'force a stop continue In this j position until your forward mo-I mo-I tion ceases. Climb to the top of the hill again. This time flex your knees. Bounce up and down on your way downhill. Relax! i |
