Show Iron County Tourney Will Host Gunnison and Monroe Cedar City High School Red-men Red-men and the Pa rowan High Rams will host Gunnison and South Sevier of Monroe In the annual Iron County basketball tournament Friday and Saturday! evening, it was Jointly announced announc-ed by Coach Bruce Decker of Ce-1 dar and Coach John Wood of Parowan. The first of the two-night affair af-fair will be staged In the College Col-lege of Southern Utah field-house field-house Friday evening, Dec. 12. Opening game will be played at 7 p. m. with the Rams meeting meet-ing South Sevier and Gunnison and the Redmen tangling in the nightcap. Saturday evening the four teams will move to Parowan where Cedar will meet South Sevier Se-vier In the opener and the Rams and Gunnison will polish off the affair. The two Iron County clubs go into the tournament series with completely opposite records. The Rams, under John Wood, have two victories under their belts in as many starts, posting wins over Bryce Valley High, 60 to 40 and over Lincoln High of Pa-naca, Pa-naca, Nev., 38 to 36 in action last I week. The Redmen, coached by Bruce Decker, have two losses following follow-ing a trek into Henderson and Las Vegas, Nev. over the week end. Basic easily handed the I Redmen a 67 to 42 loss and Vegas ( I did about the same with a 62 to 45 score. The Iron County Tournament, as it is called, has become a tradition with the Cedar and Parowan High School teams, and has developed into one of the finest pre season events In the area. Fans have an opportunity to view the two Iron County squads In the contest against what are usually some of the strongest contenders in the class B ranks from throughout the state. A number of Class A schools have also participated In the event In the past years. Starting time is 7 p. m. at Cedar Ce-dar City Friday and at Parowan Saturday. |
