Show Public Hearings Set by City Council To Consider Two Service Proposals Cedar City Council set up a public hearing to consider a request by Antennavision Inc., of Phoenix, Ariz., for easement rights on Cedar City streets, at the regular meeting meet-ing held Thursday, Dec. 4. Public hearing was set for Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 8 n. m. in the ballroom of Hotel El Escalante, according to Mayor Arnold Anderson. He explained that the Antennavision organization is considering setting up a microwave micro-wave television system in Cedar City that would utilize what is known as a "piped" signal into homes on a subscription basis and also proposes bringing in on the piped system all three stations sta-tions originating In Salt Lake City. The organization must, however, how-ever, receive permission from the city to string the necessary cables ca-bles across Cedar City streets and It is considered that public interest In the granting of this right that the public hearing has been called. Objections or approval of the 'request will be asked at the meeting. Telephone Hearing ! A second public hearing has also been called to be held on Thursday, Dec. 18 at the City and County building to consider the renewal of a franchise for the Mountain States Tel and Tel. Company, to operate the telephone tele-phone service in Cedar City. I The company has requested a 50-year franchise from the city, to renew the franchise now in existence, which will be termln-' termln-' ated on Dec. 31 of this year. Public hearing will be held In connection with the next meet-ling meet-ling of the council, to follow on the same evening. Council in other action Thursday Thurs-day evening rejected four bids ; for the replacement of police cars for Cedar City Corporation. Bids ,were received from Jones Motor Co., Lunt Motor, Thorley and , Bradshaw Chevrolet companies , of Cedar City, all ranging from .$650 to $700 with the trade-in ' on the 1959 cars now in use. All I bids were rejected. According to Mayor Anderson I consideration was given to the I adoption of a code of rules and regulations for the law enforcement enforce-ment department of the city Rules and regulations would be patterned after a similar set ol Police department, he indicated, Action on the matter was delayed, delay-ed, however. j The Shade Tree committee ol Cedar City presented three bids which were received for the removal re-moval of 23 trees In various areas of the city. Low bid of $439 submited by Carl Fife was accepted ac-cepted by the council. Other bids ! were received from Chester Parry for $550 and by Bill Munford for $G70. The Council Is also accepting bids for the position of manager at the Cedar City Municipal Airport. Air-port. The airport facilities are currently under lease with Royce Knight, with the lease period to end on Dec. 31. New managemnt of the facilities will be necessary at the beginning of the new year. A National Cash Register was purchased by the city from California-Pacific Utilities Co., for the purpose of modernizing the city's bookkeeping system. |
