For several weeks now the diehard die-hard winter sports enthusiasts, both men and women, have been Ice skating at. Brighton, where Silver lake, though fairly rough from hard usage, Is providing spa-clous spa-clous Ice for hockey, racing and figure skating. The road to Brighton Brigh-ton and the surrounding country has been as free .from snow as the Sahara, but the temuerature at BffumuH has been sufficiently sola to keep a safe amount of Ice between your runners and the muddy lake bottom. Last Sunday showed the custom ary several hundred skaters at Silver lake with a few of the lads cutting their figures sans coats, shirts and undershirts, in true Sun Valley fashion. A number of parties have reported re-ported nighttime skating Is at its best at Brighton. Light is furnished fur-nished by old automobile tires which have been doused In gasoline and set afire. The tires thus treated treat-ed are said to supply heat and light all evening. Just what the future holds for Sliver lake for skating In the event Old Man Winter dishes up a heavy -snowstorm is not known, but It seems that sklirtg over the lake would be a lot easier than shoveling shovel-ing six or seven feet of snow to get to the Ice. In the meantime, however, the skaters are making the moat of their opportunities. I I IT Vx Shirley McArthur of Salt Lake City adjusts her skates for some Indian summer skating on Silver lake at Brighton, where several hundred ice enthusiasts have been enjoying the skating skat-ing every Sunday lately. |
