Show Weaver Says: Summer Sweets by Janet Weaver Summer's here and so is baseball season! How are you going to keep the Cookie jar full as well as satisfy those ravenous appetites? How about trying some of these recipes! OATMEAL CRUNCH COOKIES 1 cup sugar 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup shortening 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 1V4 c. flour (maybe a little more) 1 tsp. soda Vi tsp. salt 3 cups oatmeal Vi cup nuts Cream shortening with sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. In another bowl, combine flour, soda, salt; add to shortening mixture until w well blended. Add oatmeal and nuts. Bake at 350 deg. for 10 minutes. Makes about 3 dozen. MOLASSES SUGAR COOKIES 2V4 cup shortening 3 cups sugar cup molasses 3 eggs 6 tsp. baking soda 6 cups flour lVfe tsp. cloves Vk tsp. ginger 3 tsp. cinnamon VA tsp. salt Melt shortening over low heat. Let cool. Add sugar, molasses, and egg; beat well. Sift flour and spices; add to first mixture. Mix well, chill. Form in 1-inch balls, roll in granulated sugar, and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 deg. for 8-10 min. WAFFLE IRON COOKIES Melt: 2 squares unsweetened un-sweetened chocolate V2 cup butter or margarine Beat: 2 eggs, cup sugar Add: (fold in or use elec. beater) the chocolate mix, 1 cup flour and 1 tsp. vanilla. Drop by teaspoons on ' medium hot waffle iron. Cook Vk min. with waffle iron down (as for making waffles). Frost with any frosting. Makes 3 dozen cookies.
