Show Elden Yergensen, Businessman, Civic Leader, dies; ( IP"" Elden J. Yergensen, age 63, died May 13, 1980 in Sun City, Arizona. He was born Feb. 11, 1917 in Monroe, Utah to Charles Hans and Sarah "Sadie" Conder Yergensen. Married Grace Robinson July 2, 1937 in the Salt Lake City IDS Temple. Mr. Yergensen worked several years for the International In-ternational Harvester Co. owning his own dealership in Nyssa, Oregon before moving to Cedar City in 1952 when he and his brother Glen purchased the Cedar City Theatre Movie business which they operated until 1974. Elden has served in many civic and LDS Church positions both in Oregon and Cedar City. A few of which are: Malhuer County, Oregon District chairman of the Boy Scouts of America. Chairmaned many fund raising drives-Two of the ' largest, "City of Nyssa, Oregon Hospital" and the "Iron County Development Co.". Initial stock toward bringing the Canvas Mfg. Co. to Cedar City (now Colemans). Served as LDS Bishop of Nyssa, Oregon First Ward. Served on the High Council in both Nyssa Stake and Cedar West Stake as well as a Counselor in the Cedar West Stake High Priest Quorum. Was President of the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce in 1956 and Cedar City Rotary Club in 1966-67. Was seven years a member of the Board of Trustees and Institutional In-stitutional council of Southern Utah State College in Cedar City. Veteran of World War II. While serving overseas was in France, Holland, Germany and Austria. Corporal in the 414th Armored Field Ar-tillary Ar-tillary of the 20th Armored Division. Survivors: Wife, Cedar City. Sons: Philip Eden, Salt Lake City; Dennis Gene, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Proceeded in death in 1966 by son Carlos Ray. Brothers Deleal "Dee", Monroe; Glen, Cedar City; Sisters:'' Mrs. Van (Madge) Anderson, An-derson, Richfield; Mrs. Dee (Virginia) Rasmunsen, Monroe, both preceded in death. Four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday May 17 at 1 :30 p.m. in the Cedar City 7th LDS Ward Chapel. Interment In-terment was in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of the Spilsbury and Graff Mortuary. |
