Show Heavy Snow Delays Road Opening Heavy snow and ice conditions continue to hamper snow plowing on State Route 143 through Cedar Breaks National Monument. Utah Department Depart-ment of Transportation Division 5 Engineer, Alex Mansour, noted that in addition to this year's record snowfall there is a heavy buildup of ice which further slows snow removal efforts. "Snow plows can operate at about 50 percent efficiency ef-ficiency in these conditions. We are hoping for some warm weather to assist in our ice removal efforts," Mansour stated. "We will evaluate conditions later this week to see when ice removal can be resumed." Snow conditions could delay the opening of facilities at Cedar Breaks National Monument also. Park Superintendent, Clay Alderson, said maintenance workers are readying visitor use facilities in the park but the deep snow will delay opening of the campground until mid-June. The visitor center and museum will be opened as soon as the road is opened. |
