Show 1 City Council approve proposal The city council approved the redevelopment survey area presented by the Redevlopment Committee at their meeting last Thursday evening in a formal resolution. "I don't see any problems with this suggested area, we can always delete , areas," said Councilman Harold I Hiskey. ! "This doesn't freeze the tax base I anywhere. This is just a research I area. When actural project areas are i suggested we will need more detailed I study. This is like a subdivision. I Before a final plat is adopted, we will I hold public meetings and go through I an involved process," explained City i Attorney Robert Braithwaite. ! The Redevelopment Committee has i recommended an area between Main j St. and 100 East from Lincoln Ave. north as an initial area to be considered con-sidered " for a redevelopment project within the redevelopment area. Hearing The council held a public hearing to include pawn shops, office buildings, gift shops, curio shops and beauty, shops in the current city's highway service zones. Discussion on how appropriate some of the businesses are for highway high-way services was questioned but the council did approve the change. "A good share of my business a t the pawn shop is with the travelling public and I don't think that you want a lot of these people in town," explained ex-plained Perry Ray who recently moved his pawn shop business from the center of town to 100 North 1100 West, a HS-1 zone. Other Business -The city appointed Raymond Prestwich as the city's representative to the Southwest Utah Co-operative Power Federation and the Southwest Power Agency. -The council approved a resolution authorizing the federation's attorney to proceed with condemnation of CPNational's electric utility system. r -The council set a public hearing for a land trade in the Quitchapa area. -Councilman Lee Fife was appointed ap-pointed to a committee to investigate the possibility of starting a zoo. -The city will send Councilwoman Barbara Starr to a briefing by the Air Force on the proposed MX system in , early June. |
