Show This week- Speculation aboundsover U.P. depot Property The much-speculated-about land near the Cedar City Union Pacific Depot is still under speculation, as far es its future is concerned, although the sale of the 10 acres to a local man was announced this week. The piece of prime . property, bordering bor-dering 200 North and going to the TWA driveway, was purchased from other local interests by Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Porter, present owners of the nearby Town & Country Restaurant and Motel. When contacted this week, Porter said immediate plans call for the depot to be converted to a restaurant with an adjoining motel. He said the remaining acreage could be developed into a mall of some sort. He said it was his understanding un-derstanding Safeway Stores were considering the site, as were other local businesses who have been in contact with him. Safeway officials in Salt Lake City, however, said "no decision has been made concerning the land and emphasized em-phasized they take close looks at any property that comes available." The property involved also goes West to 100 West, with a jog in the borderline around nearby built oil and gas plants. Stipulation in the sale made by Union Pacific included the retention of the depot on the site. |
