On the council level the candidates do not oppose a specific candidate of the opposite party. Efforts have been made by all of the candidates, the League of Women Voters, the Cedar City Jaycees and all of the media to express concerns and issues regarding the election. In this week's record a series of 10 questions have been posed for each of the candidates and their responses to those views are included for the information in-formation of voters. Despite the usual small turnout for municipal elections observers anticipate an-ticipate a relative high turnout in Cedar City Tuesday. In 1976, during the presidential election, 80.3 percent of the registered voters of Cedar City turned out at the polls. At that time there were 5916 registered voters and 4747 exercised their right to vote. Cedar City voters will go to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 8 to. elect a mayor and two city councilmen to serve four year terms. Two incumbents will be seeking reelection in the balloting. L. Kerry Jones will be seeking his second term as Mayor of Cedar City on the Republican ticket. He will be opposed op-posed by Jack Sawyer, a democrat. Incumbent City Councilman Robert Stratton will be vieing for a third term on the council, also on the Republican ticket. A second Republican candidate who came out of the Republican nominating convention is Don Mar-chant. Mar-chant. On the Democratic side of the ticket Harold Shirley and Barbara Starr will seek the four year council positions. There are 16 voting precincts in Cedar City and voters will have to vote at the precinct where they are registered and in which they reside. Information regarding the precinct boundaries and polling places is available by contacting Yorke S. Nelson, City Recorder, who is in charge of the election process in Cedar City. Polls will open at 7 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. Voters should note that in the race for Mayor they must select between Jones or Sawyers, but in the race for the city |
