Show NotificationMadeof Pending Detonation The Atomic Energy Commission's Commis-sion's Nevada test organization today issued warnings to cattlemen, cattle-men, prospectors, and others that there will be a test operation in an area approximately eight miles west of Groom Mine on ot after April 10. The operation Involves the first of a 1957 series of experiments related to the safety of atomic weapons during handling and storage, as announced by titc A EC on Jan. 21. It will be generally gen-erally similar to the safety tests conducted in November 1955 and January 1956. There will be no nuclear de-tonation, de-tonation, and there should be nc effects observable outside the immediate area of detonation. In order to obtain desired scientific sci-entific data, the detonation will , not occur until surface winds at the firing area are blowing at a required low speed and direction. , Detonation will be in the first I daylight hour beginning the morning of April 10 that wind , conditions are acceptable. A newly-activated firing site , will be used. An area 10 x 16 I miles entirely within the boundaries boun-daries of the United States Air Force's Las Vegas Bombing and , Gunnery Range and a few miles , north of Nevada Test Site has been made available to the test organization. |
