Show MANY NEW NAMES Cedar City Spring Art Exhibit Wins Gratifying Artist Response Response from outstanding artists from all parts of the country to invitations to exhibit their works at the annual Cedar City Spring Art Exhibit has been very encouraging, en-couraging, Mrs. A. W. Stephenson, secretary of the art committee, announces. Many of the most popular artists who have exhibited in years past have indicated that they will participate again this year, and in addition a number of prominent artists who have not exhibited before, will be represented this year. . The exhibit will op?n on Sunday, April 21, and continue contin-ue through Sunday, May 5, nnd will again be hung in the College of Southern Utah fieldhouse. The exhibit will be open daily from 2 to 10 p. m. and everyone is invited to call at any time that is convenient and as often as possible. Groups, either from Cedar City or from surrounding sur-rounding communities, may arrange ar-range for special visits by con-tacing con-tacing Mrs. Graham D. MacDon-aid, MacDon-aid, who will be in charge of guide service during the two week period.,. School groups from the entire area will again visit the exhibit Special Sunday afternoon pro-grams pro-grams will be held on April 23 and May 5, with Conan E. Mathews, Math-ews, chairman of the art department depart-ment at Brigham Young University, Univer-sity, as guest speaker at the first program, and Alvin L. Gittens, head of the art department at University of Utah, appearing at the final program which will officially of-ficially close the exhibit. Both will have paintings hung In the exhibit, as will other members of the art departments of the two schools and the Utah State University Uni-versity at Logan. Among the prominent artists who have exhibited before and will again be represented are Richard Haines, Dan Lutz, Em 11 Kosa, Dorothy Jordan, Eve Drew, elowe, Richard Sorby, Mlna Con-ant, Con-ant, Harry Leith-Ross, Edward Biberman, Jerri Riccl, I. Among the paintings paint-ings arriving for the annual Cedar City Spring Art Exhibit which opens on April 21, is this outstanding work, "Rain in the City," by William, Sanderson, Avarda, Colo. The works of Mr. Sanderson in past shows have always been among the most ller, Clarence Millett, Calvin Fletcher, William Sanderson, Bar. bara Latham, Maurice Logan, Paul Lauritz, . Mac Schweitzer, Don Doxey, Edith Hamlin, Rose Howard Salisbury, Cornelius Salisbury, Sal-isbury, and Eugene Mackahen. These artists come from California, Califor-nia, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Jersey, New York, Pennsyl-vanla, Pennsyl-vanla, Louisiana, Now Mexico, Nevada and Idaho. Among the artists who will be exhibiting here for the first time this year, will be Martha S. Clapp, Lorin G. Folland, Jr., Salt Lake City; Joseph Knowles, Santa San-ta Barbara, Calif.; Charles W. Ward, Carversvllle, Pa.; Slgmund Koslow, Finesville, N. J.; Francis Speight, Doylestown. Pa.; Robert W. Daley, New York; Austin F. Klllan. Waco, Texas, and Ruth Osgood, Burt Proctor, Oscar Van Young, Edgar Ewlng and Buckley Buck-ley MacGurrln, Los Angeles. Most of the popular artists who have exhibited in the past will again be represented this year, together with several new artists from all parts of the country. |
