Show Reach for natural high at youth conference Substance Abuse and the Medical Association. Gov. and Mrs. Norman Bangerter will attend the conference. Mrs. Bangerter is honorary chairman of the federation. Congressman Wayne Owens will be present. Keynote speakers will include gold medal Olympic track star, Jackie Joyner-Kersee; Mark Scharenbroich, whose motivational address several years ago electrified his audience; and Mrs. Lonise Bias, mother of former University of Maryland hoop star, Len Bias, who was the victim of substance abuse two days after being drafted by the Boston Celtics. Individual as well as family or teamgroup registration is available. Pre -registration costs will be offered up to March 9. After that date, registration costs do increase. College credits are available through the University of Utah, Brigham Young University and Utah State University. The Utah Federation for Drug-Free Drug-Free Youth will hold its Sixth Annual An-nual Life Skills Conference March 22-24, reports Marva Jones, president presi-dent of the organization. The theme for the conference, "Reach for a Natural High' indicates in-dicates the focus of the popular confab. con-fab. Workshops dealing with topics such as anatomy of happy families, college campuses without drugs, single parenting, preparing for the drug-free years, music and morality, morali-ty, boy scoutsclub power, steroids, hang-gliding and sports panels will be offered Workshop presenters will include Ty Detmer, Dr. Lynn Scoresby, Elliot Landau and other well-known celebrities and noted professional persons. Development of self-esteem self-esteem and decision-making tools will be highlighted over the three-day three-day event that will draw an estimated 9,000-10,000 Utah youngsters and their parents. The conference is hosted each year at the Salt Palace in cooperation coopera-tion with the Utah State Office of Education, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Foundation, Founda-tion, the Salt Lake County Commission, Commis-sion, the Utah State Division of |
