Show First Baptist plans Lenten study 40 was evidently suggested by the 40 day fasts of Moses, Elijah and - Jesus of Nazareth. It became fixed in many churches' calendars in the seventh century, when the four days from Ash Wednesday to the First Sunday in Lent were added. During the Lenten season there will be an ecumenical Bible study on Monday mornings from 10 to 11:30 am. at the First Baptist Church, 1915 S. Orchard Drive. The Bible study will center on the gospel according to Mark, which has been called a passion narrative with an extended introduction. introduc-tion. Some of the questions answered an-swered will be: What does Mark's account say about the events leading up to the crucifixion and Easter? What is the Markan Secret? How can reading the gospel assist us in our Lenten journey? Participants from the local churches include: March 5, Father Peter Chase, Episcopal Church of the Resurrection; March 12, The Rev. Peter Hovland, Grace Lutheran Church; March 19, Father - Rudi Daz,- St:- Olaf's Roman Catholic Church; March 26, The Rev. Joan Stewart, First Baptist Church; and April 2, The Rev.
