Robinson, Phillips vice president of refining, presented the award to Jim Branch, Woods Cross Refinery manager, at a meeting in Bartlesville, Okla. The traveling trophy is awarded to the Phillips refinery with the most improved recordable injury rate, compared with its average rate of the previous three years. In 1989, the Woods Cross Refinery had 2.33 recordable in juries per 200,000 employee hours, compared with an average of 4.15 in 1986-88. Although industry-wide statistics for 1989 have not yet been reported by the American Petroleum Institute, In-stitute, the refining industry average in 1988 was 6.52 injuries per 200,000 hours worked. In the four years the trophy has been presented, Phillips Sweeny Refinery has won it once, Woods Cross has won it once, and the Puerto Puer-to Rico Core Plant has received it twice. |
