Fred Montmorency, representing Montmorency, Hayes and Talbot architects, told the council that the proposed expansion and beautifica-tion beautifica-tion project will greatly enhance the area, including the National Guard storage facility and other buildings in that area. The council okayed the project and the architectural plans by a 4-1 vote, with Councilwoman Renee Coon dissenting. "I can't, in good conscience, approve the architectural architec-tural firm's offer without having something to compare their credentials creden-tials and cost figures with, said Coon. ."I believe that it is a reputable firm we are dealing with, but I prefer pref-er to have a choice of companies from which we (council) can choose, instead of having only one firm offered and expecting the council to give its wholehearted support. Montmorency said he has a staff of 28 ready to go to work and immediately im-mediately prepare final (architectural) (architec-tural) plans so that construction can begin in early summer. The project could cost up to $1,450,000, according to Montmorency. Mont-morency. The architectural planning plann-ing for the project will be in two phases with the first phase costing $25,812. |
