Show Hanson: top scholar, outstanding athlete ambition to attend either Stanford or Michigan State University. He is also hopeful of being a member of the U.S. Olympic swim team. By GARY BLODGETT Sports Editor FARMINGTON - Geoffrey Hanson is a Farmington Junior High ninth-grade honor student who is also an outstanding swimmer. He has a long list of accomplishments, ac-complishments, including being named the Most Outstanding Swimmer by the Bountiful Sharks. He has broken a dozen longstanding long-standing swim team records and has equalled the AAA standards in three areas of freestyle competition. Geoffrey earned four gold and three silver medals in last summer's Utah Junior Olympics, where he also garnered the High-Point Trophy honor. Since Farmington Junior High has no swim team, Geoffrey is a member of the Viewmont High swim team where he took first place in the 500-meter freestyle and was a member of the school's 400-yard winning relay team in Region One 4-A competition. He also placed second se-cond in the 200-yard freestyle in Region One. He also placed seventh in the Class 4-A State Swim Championships Champion-ships in the 500-meter freestyle at the University of Utah and he's only a ninth-grader. Featured in the January 1990 issue of "Swimming World' ' Magazine, Geoffrey takes all the attention at-tention in stride while maintaining a 3.5 grade-point average. He is a member of the school's honor roll and scored in the top two percent on the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Geoffrey is also musically talented tal-ented as a trumpet player and gleaned top honors in the Utah State History Contest. As an eighth-grader, eighth-grader, he was named the school's Most Valuable Musician. Meanwhile, Geoffrey has set some high goals in swimming, with |
