Show Great Salt Lake continues decline The Great Salt Lake declined de-clined 0.25 foot from the level on Aug. IS, and is now at 4210.10 feet above sea level, according to a Sept. 1 measurement mea-surement by the U.S. Geological Geolo-gical survey. The USGS operates the official gauge at the State Park Saltair Beach Boat Harbor in cooperation with the Utah Division Di-vision of Water Rights. "The lake level, which is approaching its seasonal low, declined 1.75 feet since reaching its seasonal peak at 4211.85 on March 30," said Lee Case, District Chief of the U.S. Geological Survey, Water Wa-ter Resources Division in Salt Lake City. Last year's low of 4210.70 occurred on Sept. 15, 1986, and was 0.60 foot higher than today's level. "The seasonal low usually occurs in September, October, Octo-ber, or November," Case said. "For two-thirds of the years since 1960, the seasonal low has occurred during October." |
