Show AF saves money HILL AFB Anew repair procedure proc-edure on F-4 Phantom jet control rods is projected to save the Air Force thousands of dollars, thanks to a Hill AFB aircraft mechanic. Robert Schwab, Directorate of Maintenance, also earned $1,200 for his suggestion dealing with the F-4 part. He noticed that F-4 control rods were being replaced quite often because be-cause of stiff or seized rod end bearings. bear-ings. Because the technical order did not have an individual parts breakdown on the rod end bearings, bear-ings, mechanics ordered the complete com-plete rod end assembly. They cost $156 per assembly. Schwab suggested changing the order to include individual rod end bearings on the parts breakdown so separate orders could be made if required. A rod end bearing could be pro-. pro-. cured for an average cost of $ 1 2 and time to install the replacement was cut. |
