Show American Legion, Post No. 65 National Commander O'Neil i has proclaimed Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 7, as Good Neighbor Day. Within the Legion the ob-, ob-, ject will be to visit eligible non-member non-member veterans in our community com-munity and neighborhood, to get acquainted with them, at the same time inviting them to be a guest at a meeting of the post. If we go along with the idea we will, without a doubt, broaden our acquaintance. We will find that the fellow down the street who wears the Ruptured Duck, is a fine chap to know, just the sort of fellow you would like to meet and fraternize with at your Legion Post. You may, perhaps, find out that he has been wondering won-dering why you have not requested re-quested him to join up. He may find out that you are just the sort of felow he would like to know. He may change his mind on the suspicion he may be harboring. har-boring. By contacting him and be raffled off during the evening. eve-ning. An invitation has been extended , from the unit to the members of Post No. 112 and No. 65, who will be holding their joint meeting this same evening to attend and enjoy this social after their meeting has concluded. con-cluded. At 2:30 last Saturday afternoon, after-noon, the post assisted at the funeral of Comrade Charles D. Powers, who was a member of our post. Interment was in the City Cemetery with Commander Command-er Grubb sounding Taps and Paul Porcher the echo. Speaking along the same subject sub-ject our Post will hold a joint meeting with Post No. 112 at the Rock Castle on Dec. 11, which 'is pur regular meeting night. This may be just the time and the place to bring along this guest we contacted on Good Neighbor Day. It may further sell him on the comradeship within the Legion. He may enjoy en-joy it and I know you will. The Christmas Party of the Post Auxiliary will be held on their regular meeting night Thursday, Dec. 11. The Unit will have a short business session after which the program, consisting con-sisting of other entertainment will follow. The members of the unit will exchange presents at the conclusion of the program. pro-gram. Artell Beecher and Elva Wignall will assist with the re-freshments re-freshments and Betty Cbnley, entertainment chairman will have charge of the program. The Unit president, Pearl Hamilton, has made and presented to the Unit a centerpiece which will Junior High School. A very interesting in-teresting series has been directed direct-ed by Dr. Melvin Strong of the Guidance Department of the Granite School District on child guidance and training. Dr. Strong made the meetings both very profitable and educational for all who attended. A colorful evening was enjoyed enjoy-ed by the Primary officers and teachers of Holladay Ward at the home of Therma Petty Monr day night. After exchanging gifts, they enjoyed a pot luck dinner, of spaghetti and meat balls, salad, rolls, pie, fudge, divinity, di-vinity, and all of the trimmings, Special guests included the bishopric and their wives. Many people, representing Holladay, were seen at the Barn Dance at the Old Mill Friday night. Arriving in anything from satin to levis, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Andrus came in with Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hansen. Mr. and Mrs. Manford Woodruff chatted with Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Drage during the floor show while Mr. and Mrs. Paul B. Cannon Can-non greeted the guests at the door. Calvin Nelson chose Marva Sundberg as his partner for the evening while Glen Jacobs' choice was Norma Jensen. Bud Sheperd came in with Sheri Cowley, and other familiar faces were Eddie Fillerup, Phyllis Redmond, and Don Thomas. |
