Show Girl hoopsters finish year By TOM HARALDSEN Woods Cross High completed its second unbeaten league season in three years Tuesday with a 72-57 win over tough Bountiful. The Wildcats finished a three year run in league play with an incredible 29-1 record, the only blemish a last-game last-game loss to East last season. Meanwhile, Davis was finishing its regular season with a 56-34 win over Highland in Salt Lake City, and the Lady Darts prepared for last Thursday's inter-region playoff play-off game with Mountain View, which they won 43-41 (see separate story). Viewmont wrapped up second place with a 61-37 win over East as well. At Bountifui, the Wildcats built a 36-25 halftime lead on the strength of Marci Heaps inside and both Amy Mason and Carolyn Knight outside. The lead increased to 53"- 37 after three periods, but Bountiful Bounti-ful hung tough, despite foul trouble, trou-ble, and made a short run at Woods Cross in the fourth. The Lady Wildcats, now 18-2 on the year, got 24 points from Knight and 23 from Mason, while Heaps added 19. Stephanie Reading paced Bountiful with 14 points, Lisa Wilkinson had 11, and both Robyn Ludwig and Mona Hibbert had 10 each. Davis wrapped Highland behind the 19 points of Heather Peel and 17 of Becky Rees. The Darts finished strong, and took some of that momentum into Thursday's interregion win over Mountain View. And at Viewmont, the Vikes held off stubborn East for their seventh win in league and 15th of the season. Becky Yeates scored 17, Tiffany Twitchell 16 and Melissa Melis-sa Eggett 13 for the Vikes. |
