Front, Scott Larsen, Melanie Markos, Maria Gallegos, Charlene Davis, Christine Hofhine and Jason Izatt. Clearfield High General Scholarship R. Scott Larsen, the son of Richard S. and Carol J. Larsen, carries a 4.0 gpa. He is involved in many activities including Model United Nations, Chess Club, Golf Team, Junior Engineering En-gineering and Technical Society and the Academic Olympiad Team. He earned a National Merit Scholarship commendation status. Scott was named Boy Scout of the Year. He received the Kiwanis Hope of America Award. He is an Eagle Scout. Business Maria Gallegos, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Manuel M. Gallegos, has held many leadership leader-ship positions including Senior Class vice president, Debate vice president and DECA vice president. presi-dent. English Charlene Davis, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Davis, has maintained an A-gpa during her career at Clearfield High School. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years. Foreign Language Melanie Markos, the daughter' of Mr. and Mrs. Steven C. Markos, is the French Club President. She guided club members in many special activities acti-vities including a bowling tournament tourna-ment and a Christmas tree decorating decorat-ing contest. Melanie is the secretary secret-ary of the National Honor Society. She is editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. Home Economics Christine Hofhine, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven W. Hofhine, is the vice president of the FHA over activities. She also belongs to the Key Club and the Best Club. Christine maintains a 3.8 gpa. She works as a volunteer for the Davis Family Support Center. Industrial Arts Kevin Alan Packham, the son of Michael and Joanne Packham, is the winner of two honorable mentions in the Utah State Fair Book Cover Con test. He is the top student at Clearfield Clear-field High in drafting and automotive automo-tive technology. Kevin placed fifth in region swim competition. He earned his Eagle Scout award. Kevin maintains a 3.57 GPA. He is an employee of the Robert Love Heating and Air Conditioning Con-ditioning Company. Mathematics Shanee J. Beddes, Bed-des, the daughter of Jerry and Susan Beddes, has had the opportunity oppor-tunity to tutor math students at the high school level and on a voluntary volun-tary basis at Cook Elementary. She is a member of the Madrigal Choir and enjoys playing the piano and composing music. Music Kelly Egan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Egan, has studied stu-died the piano for ten years. He has competed as a piano soloist in many solo and ensemble festivals. He has performed in numerous concerts and productions including includ-ing singing with the All State High School Choir. Currently, Kelly is a member of Madre, and the Concert Choir. He plays keyboards in the Jazz Ensemble. He is in the top ten percent of his senior class and is a member of the Academic Olympiad Olym-piad team. Science Joe Chang, the son of. Chien-Main Chang and Chin-Feng Chang, is the winner of the West-inghouse West-inghouse Science Talent Search, the third student from Utah in 47 years to receive this science award. Joe was a finalist to the International In-ternational Science and Engineering Engineer-ing Fair in 1986 and 1987. He represented repre-sented Utah as the NIH Centennial Scholar in 1987. Joe is president of JETS, the Young Astronauts and the Model UN. He is vice president of the Chess Club and captain of the Science Bowl Team. Social Science Mark D. Austad, Au-stad, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Austad, is an Academic All-American All-American and a high honor roll student. stu-dent. He is accomplished in music having been a band member for six years, a member of the District Orchestra and a member of the All-State All-State Band. Mark has been a member mem-ber of the National Honor Society for three years. He belongs to TARS Clubs, JETS Club, the Young Astronauts Association, the French Club, the Art Club and the Senior Committee. He received re-ceived superior ratings for his horn solos for three years. Mark competed com-peted in the Le Concours National de Francais, was named outstanding outstand-ing French student for two years and outstanding history student. He is president of the TARS and the band and vice president of the French Club. Speech and Drama Jason Izatt, the son of Major and Mrs. John O. Izatt II, has been involved in drama since elementary school. He has had supporting and leading roles in many plays and musicals. Jason has competed in his sophomore and junior years in state drama contests receiving excH'ent and superior ratings. He is captain of the Clearfield Swim Team, a member mem-ber of the Madrigals, Concert Choir, Troubadores and the National Na-tional Honor Society. Jason ranks 11th in his graduating class with a 3.97 GPA. Visual Arts Deril Johnson, the son of Richard and Jean Johnson, won an honorable mention in the Utah State Fair Cover Contest. He has submitted his work to many art shows and has received several awards and ribbons. Deril is a member of the school soccer team. He is an Eagle Scout. |
