Show Council disputes charges By GARY R. BLODGETT BOUNTIFUL A dispute has erupted between residents of a small portion of Val Verda and Bountiful City over allegations of "improper solicitation" of about 25 homes into the city. City Manager Tom Hardy emphatically denied that any attempt is being made by the city to "have the city actively engaged in annexation efforts." "We have a problem of rerouting Bountiful-owned power in the area east of Orchard Drive on 3300 South unless we have the cooperation coopera-tion of the residents of that area," Mr. Hardy told the council. He said that Bountiful Light and Power Department personnel contacted con-tacted about 25 homes in that area and explained the problem. Fifteen of 25 home owners said thev would be interested in annexation, according to the city manager. A public hearing will be held April 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers of Bountiful City Hall. Councilman Harold Shafter said he was concerned about a letter to the editor that appeared in the Davis County Clipper. The letter criticized Bountiful City and Bountiful Boun-tiful Power and Light Department for "soliciting annexation of Val Verda property owners into the city." "I want to clarify the situation and clear the name of the city and the power and light department which I feel have done no wrong," the councilman said during last week's council meeting. |
