Show I, ! faRMINGTON -- Do you J0V gardening? Would you J sharing your gardening knowledge with others? Do you like to keep up on the latest in varieties and garden ing techniques? If you have answered yes, the master gardener gar-dener program is for you! THE MASTER gardener program is a service organization organiza-tion of the Horticultural Farm, Utah State University Extension. Exten-sion. The program operates under the Extension concept of learning by doing. Volunteers Volun-teers learn gardening skills through class offerings and by working with the horticultural staff on farm projects. Diagnosing plant problems will be the topic of the 1983 training course. The class will focus on common insect and disease problems gardeners face. Upon completion, volunteers volun-teers will be able to recognize plant problems and recommend recom-mend control procedures. THE FORTY hour course with homework will be taught with 10 lecture and 10 lab periods. The lectures will be on Tuesday mornings, 9:30 to 11:30, starting Jan. 4, 1983. The lab period may be taken either Thursday mornings, 9:30-1 1:30 or Wednesday evenings, 7-9 p.m. The non-credit non-credit course will be taught in Farmington at the Horticultural Horticultu-ral Farm Classroom. Instructors Instruc-tors are USU Extension Faculty. Fa-culty. As part of the learning experience, ex-perience, Garden volunteers, are required to assist in service activities. This could include assistance with Extension Garden programs (tour guides, lectures, office calls, etc.) or help with farm research and maintenance (rose, iris, veg gardens, greenhouse, etc.). Volunteers may select from two service commitment options. op-tions. THE 40 hour service commitment. com-mitment. The basic training course is to provide without charge with a 40 hour minimum mini-mum return service commitment. commit-ment. The 20 hour service commitment. commit-ment. The Basic training course is provided for a registration reg-istration and supply fee of $35 with a 20 hour minimum return service commitment. PARTICIPATION in master gardeners is an exciting, ever learning experience. If you have the time required and would like to learn more about insect and disease control, this is for you. Membership is made by application, with participants par-ticipants being selected from those applying. Class size is limited. li-mited.
