Show Go For Classics In Stitching Bv BETTY W. K1NSER Copley News Service This past week or so I have been shopping for shoes. That may not sound like a big chore to you. but believe me, with these boats, it is a task! WHAT I am finding out is that a good pair of shoes can first car! Granted, my first car wasn't real whippy, but it had four wheels and it didn't have to match my dress. When purchasing long-term accessories such as shoes or purses, a lot of thought should be given to what is already in your wardrobe. The more garments gar-ments your shoes w ill go with, the more you can justify the cost. LOOK FOR "classic" rather than "fad." Good leather leath-er pieces for example, will last a long, long time and should be in a style that will always be nght. Save fad for cute little wedgies you can wear one summer and then toss out. The same rules apply to buying fabric. A good wool or suede can cost a lot per yard, but if you work it up into a classic garment that is not going to go out of style, your woo! or suede will last for several sev-eral years, spreading the cost and justifying the expense. NOT ALL things you make, of course, need to be made from expensive fabric. For those one-time things, or a real hot fad item, or a just-for-kicks outfit, you can choose less expensive, ex-pensive, less durable fabric. When deciding how much you can invest in a particular garment, keep in mind how many times you will wear it, how many times it must be dry-cleaned dry-cleaned or washed and how long it will be in style. THE MORE you wear a garment, gar-ment, the less the cost... after a wli.le, it's free! |
