Show Seeks Election To Utah Legislature ). --mm- mm r-' V::' , '-IS . :H ' : M ; 1 r I Willy "Star" Marshall is a candidate for the Utah House of Representatives District 19, which covers Woods Cross and most of Bountiful. A LIBERTARIAN candidate, candi-date, he is in the unusual position posi-tion of being in a two way race. There is no Democrat candidate. candi-date. He points out that, "Really, this year the voters have a clearer choice than ever before. My opponent votes consistently for higher spending spend-ing and taxes, and to regulate personal matters such as cable television. I am opposite him on all these issues." Mr. Marshall thinks that the economy is the most important issue this year. He says, "America and Utah are in economic eco-nomic trouble. In spite of the rhetoric of politicians, spending spend-ing and taxes continue to increase in-crease on state and local levels as well as federally. This is the cause of our economic woes." "WHAT UTAH needs is a real reduction in government spending, taxes, and regulation, regula-tion, not a 'cut in the rate of spending increase'." Mr. Marshall Mar-shall is highly critical of the current Utah Legislature. "Our Republican majority was elected on the platform of getting government off our backs, but what have they given us? Not a cut in spending, spend-ing, but the largest state budget in history. Our state government govern-ment spends $400 more per family of four than does the liberal state of California, yet L'tah is supposed to be a conservative con-servative state. Since we have a balanced state budget, that can only mean that L'tahns pay more taxes as spending increases. in-creases. Taxes and regulation stifle our industry, create unemployment, un-employment, and make Utah products higher-priced and thus less competitive in other states." WILLY MARSHALL MR. MARSHALL pledges that he will oppose all tax increases in-creases on anything, and will work to reduce the total size and power of state government. govern-ment. He also opposes state regulation of business, including includ-ing cable television. He believes be-lieves the choice of television programs should be made by individuals, not by government. govern-ment. Mr. Marshall is a resident of Bountiful, and works as an independent in-dependent marketing agent for a long-distance telephone service. ser-vice. He is a five-time participant partici-pant in the annual Hill Cumor-ah Cumor-ah Pageant at Palmyra, New York and this year played the role of King Noah. He was a candidate for Davis County School Board in 1980, and for countv justice of the peace in the 19S2 primary. In 1981 he was a delegate to the Libertarian Liberta-rian Party National Convention, Conven-tion, and is currently the Utah spokesman for the Libertarian Deseret Society. |
