Show Who's Real Republican? I'm writing in response to the letters to the editur whining about the loss of I.loyd Sd-kneil Sd-kneil . It seems that those who have written letters ;:nd taken out an ad attacking Shumwuy have lost their objectivity in the I.ilc ol deleal and are making mak-ing statements based on emotion emo-tion I he current attack 's worse than anything I saw in the I'Minaiy and appears to be an attempt to discredit Shum-v.ay Shum-v.ay personally. I UK HKST Hem I must address is that Shumway was not eleeted by the Democrats. Appaienlly those making such statements are unable to aecepl the decision of the Republican Re-publican I'arty. Republicans had a choice and picked Shumway. Shum-way. I know many, many Republicans Re-publicans lhat voted for Shumway. Shum-way. however 1 am yet to have someone give me the name of a iJemocrat that voted for her. Even if there were some Democrats that voted for her the margin between the candidates candi-dates wasn't that close. The difficulty with the statement "it was Dmocrats that elected Shumway" is lhat it is impossible impossi-ble to prove or disprove. Such a statement is an attempt to discredit an honorable victory and makes a good whine for those who think all Republicans Republi-cans have a philosophy like Selleneit's. THIS WAS the first primary election Selleneit faced. It was the first time Republicans as a whole had a chance to choose at a primary level. A majority of Republicans didn't think Lloyd represented their view s. All Republicans don't think like Lloyd but that hardly means they aren't Republicans or that they ar less loyal Americans, Amer-icans, or support the Constitution Constitu-tion less. I have a difficult time accepting that a majority of Republicans support some of the things Lloyd has worked for (i.e. abolishing direct election elec-tion of senators). IN REGARDS to statements that Shumway isn't a Republican Republi-can I could counter that Selleneit Sel-leneit isn't a Republican either; and his views are closer to the American Party than those of the Republican Party . Based on the logic (or lack of) that has been used to state that Shumway doesn't support the Republican platform I can just as well state that Selleneit hasn't supported the Republican Republi-can platform. My point is that both are Republicans and that whether or not an individual supports the party platform is subject to wide interpretation. LLOYD HAS done a good job as a legislator. We have agreed and disagreed on issues. I have supported him in the past three elections and had he won the Primary I would have voted for him in November. Republicans have now chosen Naomi Shumway and it is time for Republicans to unite and realize that it's time to quit calling "foul play" and playing martyr, accept losses gracefully, grace-fully, recognize that everyone in the party doesn't think the same and move ahead instead of backwards.
