Show Residents Of Farmington To Vote On City Complex By KATHRYN JENNINGS FARMINGTON -- Farmington Farm-ington residents will have a chance to vote on a proposed $550,000 general obligation bond which would be used to construct a municipal and public pub-lic safety complex. THE CITY council decided last w eek, after hearing reports from committee meetings held earlier, that the bond proposal should be placed on the general gener-al election ballot. Councilman Grant Ungcr-man Ungcr-man reported on meetings of the committee considering the new building. The committee felt there should be bonds issued in the amount of $550,000 to provide financing for all or part of the construction construc-tion for the municipal building and fire station. ALSO INCLUDED in the project is the acquisition of approximately seven acres for a park to be located in North Farmington. The electorate will have the opportunity to vote on the proposal during the general election to be held Nov. 2. THE ENTIRE project has been under consideration and study for the past six months. Interest in the project was initiated initi-ated as a result of a lowering of the municipal bond interest rates and the current trend of low building costs. A special committee composed com-posed of a cross section of Farmington residents, were appointed to study the need, timing and project feasibility. After much study and discussion, discus-sion, the committee decided to modify the original project scope down to a reasonable and affordable level. THE INTENT is lo use the bond proceeds to build a two level building with one level finished and one unfinished. Federal grants and the sale of surplus city land is being considered consi-dered to finance the lire station portion of the project. Acquisition of the proposed park land near Shepard Lane to be financed out of impact fees of current operating funds. THE CITY building would house administrative stall and the police department and provide pro-vide space for community activities, acti-vities, such as public meetings, theatre, piano recitals, small theatrical productions and such activities. Several property owners adjoining ad-joining the proposed site were present to oppose selling their homes. Speaking were Darrell and Barbara Lake, Ken and Jackie Hardy and others, kj |
