At the recent meet in Price, Alta Jackson placed second, and Richard Hurley third in bookkeeping. book-keeping. Leta Haddock took third place in shorthand at 100 words per minute. j The results of the State i Speech meet at Provo, were: Radio Speaking Joyce Burr, excellent; Eldon Winterton, fair! Dramatic Readings ReNae El-dredge El-dredge and Nedine Clark, honorable hon-orable mention. In the speech and drama division di-vision of Activity Days, Dorothy Doro-thy Dean Nixon brought home the one and only superior rating rat-ing with her humerous reading "Jimmy Speaks His Mind," which was also broadcast on K J A M. However, Roosevelt's one-act play, "'The Weird Sisters," Sis-ters," rated first place. Ratings were not given in music mu-sic but criticisms were. The reason rea-son for this was to help the contestants improve their methods meth-ods before the Region Five music mu-sic meet to be held this week at Price. Ratings earned there will be in next week's news. Joyce Burr, reporter ALTERRA HIGH SCHOOL A group of 109 students from Alterra high school will attend the Region 5 Music Festival to be held April 26-27, Carbon College, Price. This group consists of a mixed chorus of 85 voices which will sing, "Behold Our God," by Dvorak, and "The Angelus," by Rubinstein; and a band of 44 members, which will enter concert con-cert playing. These activities are under the direction of Clyde Johnson, music mu-sic instructor at the school. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Last Friday at 11 a. m., Mrs. Wilkerson's first grade presented present-ed the assembly program, which consisted of singing, dancing and three numbers by the rhythm band. A chorus of six boys and six girls' sang "Mockin' Bird Hill;" six boys recited the poem. "Over "Ov-er in the Meadow," and a play, I "The Ugly Duckling," in song and story was presented with Byron Colton as reader. The costumes cos-tumes were very effective in portraying the story. Mrs. Evelyn Schmiett. our music director, assisted with the play The fourth, fifth and sixth grades are very busy practicing for their spring music festival. All classes in our school are beginning their projects on "The Colorado River Utah's Last Water Hole." |
