The newly installed member of the stake presidency, Mr. Ivory, is a native of Fountain Green, and is employed by the Soil Conservation Service in the Uintah Basin, with headquarters in Roosevelt. He was recently released re-leased from the Roosevelt ward bishopric after having served as clerk and counselor for nearly near-ly seven years. He replaces Di R. The vacancy Mr. Drollinger fills in the high council was brought about when Rulon An-derton An-derton was called into the bishopric bish-opric with Dr. Larson. The new high council member was a former bishop of the Ioka ward, having been released April 15, after serving five years in that capacity. He is a farmer, and stockman. Hall was replaced by Melvm J Benson, of Ioka, as chairman of the old folk's committee. In addressing the various conference con-ference sessions President Young stressed three main phases of church progress and stability In the Saturday evening welfare wel-fare and priesthood leadership meetings, Pres. Young and Walter Wal-ter Dansie emphasized the great need of teaching the people of the church to observe "the fast" on the first Sunday of each month, and to pay fast offerings offer-ings to the bishop to help sustain sus-tain the poor of the church. "Parents have a very definite responsibility to their children in teaching them to fast two meals monthly and then see that your children take the amount saved from these meals to the bishop and demand a receipt from him," Pres. Young told the conference. He also stressed very emphatically emphat-ically the need of leadership today to-day in the church. "Accept responsibility re-sponsibility from those called to preside over you, and then be an obedient leader the Lord will not call a man or woman to lead but what He will provide a way for Him to accomplish his goal," President Young stated. stat-ed. In the afternoon session on Sunday, the representative of the general authorities of the church admonished all church leaders to teach the simple fundamentals fund-amentals of Mojmonism whenever when-ever and wherever possible. "Our people should know about faith, repentance, baptism and the laying on of hands for the gift of the holy ghost, among many other things that give them a simple understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ," he stated. Others besides Pres. Young and Mr. Dansie, who addressed the conference were all three members of the stake presidency, presiden-cy, Mr. Hullinger, Mr. Todd and Mr. Ivory; Stan Watts, coach of the national championship basketball bas-ketball team from B.Y.U.; Byron By-ron Gilbert, Wayne Timothy, Arthur Wiscombe and Neal Jensen, Jen-sen, who all recently returned from missions, and Clifford Drollinger. Music for the morning session on Sunday was supplied by a girls' chorus from the Roosevelt high school, under the direction of Mrs. Barbara Lowe. The Roosevelt Roos-evelt ward choir directed by Bennie Schmiett presented the music for the afternoon session. The next Roosevelt stake conference con-ference will be held Aug. 18 and 19. The concluding session of the conference was the stake speech festival that was presented Sunday Sun-day evening at 7:30, under the direction of the M.I.A. boards, with Robert Andrews conducting, conduct-ing, and Mrs. Don Johnson as the narrator. Mrs. Paul Nelson was in charge of arrangements for the festival. She is stake speech director. , |
