Show Kiwanis Is Host To High School Basketball Team The Uintah Basin championship champion-ship basketball team from Roosevelt Roos-evelt high school an dtheir two coaches, Marcus Garrett and El-don El-don Wright, were honored by the local Kiwanis club last night at its regular meeting, with the Child Welfare committee in charge of the program. Senator Clarence L. Ashton, who represented Uintah and Duchesne counties in the recent state legislature, discussed activities ac-tivities of the 1951 law-making bodies and offered several sug-festions sug-festions where the people could make a legislator's duties much easier. "Lack of interest on the part of the people at home is the most detrimental phase of Kovernment," he said. Howard Harmston conducted the meeting as toastmaster nnd presented each of the boys and coaches with a miniature gold basketball. Robert Sather made three trophy awards on behalf of his company, Sather Jewelry of Roosevelt. Coach Garrett reviewed re-viewed the past season and expressed ex-pressed appreciation for the sup-pprt sup-pprt of the'eommunity and the: boys who won the district title and played in the Utah Class B. tournament in Salt Lake City. Franklin Peterson, team captain, responded for the team. Team members honored were Dale Larson. John Benson. Scott and Kenneth Nickell, Russell Gingell, Frank Snyder, Norval Hansen, Don Killian and Jack Burgess, team manager. Next week the Kiwanis club will observe its first anniversary with a special ladies night program. pro-gram. Past District Governor H. W. McCune, of Nephi, and LeRoy Olsen, of Provo, past lieutenant governor, will be featured fea-tured guests and speakers.- |
