Show line Students At Model U.N. Assembly (n S. L. Five students from Altamont and four from Duchesne High Schools traveled to the University of Utah last weekend to take part in the first Model United States Assembly for high school students ever held in the United States. The local high students, along with representatives from 40 other Utah high schools, received personal per-sonal telegrams of congratulations and encouragement from President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge and Dag Ham-marskjold, Ham-marskjold, secretary-general of the United National. Students attending from Altamont Alta-mont were Etholene Burton, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Burton, Talmage; Duane Evans, son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Evans; Larry Hartman, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Max Hartman; Joseph Kemp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kemp, Mt. Home; and John Tew, son of Mr. and Mrs. Burton E. Tew, Talmage. They were accompanied accom-panied by high school faculty member Eliza J. Neilson. From Duchesne High were Jes-sup Jes-sup O. Johnsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto E. Johnsen; Keith F. Lewis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max L. Lewis; Louise Liddell, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth E. . Liddell. Bridgeland; "and Kara Lynn Smith, daughter of .Mr. and Mrs. Bruce V. Smith. They were accompanied by high school faculty facul-ty member Edythe Merrett. Each high school attending represented rep-resented different countries actually act-ually belonging to the U. N. Duchesne Du-chesne High School acted as the delegation from Greece and Altamont Alta-mont from Norway. All meetings dealt with vital issues is-sues which now face the U. N. itself as it meets in New York. Each high school group slanted its participation in the discussions discus-sions to foster the best interests of the country they represented. |
