Show Charles Timothy To Attend World Jamboree Explorer Scout Charles Timothy, Timo-thy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Presley Timothy, has been selected as one of 9 representatives of the Utah National Parks Council to the VIII World Jamboree to be from Aug. 18-28 at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada, Can-ada, according to James E. Bacon, Roosevelt district chairman. Only 1500 American Explorers can participate in the World Jamboree Jam-boree and the Utah National Parks Council with a membership of 13,-000 13,-000 was allotted but 9 Explorers as participants. Explorers from nearly every free country of the world will gather in Canada for the first World Jamboree to ever be held in North America. Region 12's 165 Explorers who will attend the Jamboree, will gather at Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 10-12 for special pre-jamboree pre-jamboree training. Two days will be spent touring Washington, D. C, after the group arrives in the nation's capitol Aug. 15. These two days will include a bus trip to Mt. Vernon, returning return-ing by boat; the Washington Monument, Mon-ument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Capitol, the White House, the FBI building, the U. S. Mint, the Congressional Library, the Supreme Court building, build-ing, and the Smithsonean Museum. If there is a major league baseball game Monday evening, that will be included. August 17 and 18 will be spent seeing things of interest in New York City. The contingent arrives at Niagara Falls Friday morning, August 19. On the return trip, about August 29, the boys will tour Chicago before returning west. Region 12's boys will be organized organ-ized into five troops and sub-organized into patrols which will be under the leadership of the Explorers Ex-plorers themselves. "With only 1500 American Explorers Ex-plorers eligible to participate in the 10,000 to 15,000 membership of the 8th World Jamboree, we of the Uintah Basin are most fortunate," for-tunate," explains Mr. Bacon, "to have two boys represent us. Lee Caldwell of Vernal was chosen as our representative last fall, and in a last minute opening by the Council, we were able to secure a place for Charles to attend." |
