Show Scout - Explorer Circus Date Set For April 23 Scouts and Explorers will gather gath-er April 28 at the stake house for the Scout-Explorer Circus, it was announced today by Don Nielson, Roosevelt district Camping and Activities chairman. Events will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and will include displays, fire building, signaling, balloon busting, first aid, and knots. Prizes will be awarded the troop or post earning first, second and third places. "Parents and friends of Scouts are encouraged to plan now to attend. It will be one of the largest Scouting functions of the year," Mr. Nielson continued. All Scouts and Explorers of the Roosevelt Scout District are encouraged en-couraged to begin preparations this week. The displays may depict de-pict any Scouting skill or adven ture and will be built in an area assigned as the unit arrives. Judges of the displays will consider con-sider originality, adaptability, work in preparation, and general popularity pop-ularity with the people at the circus. cir-cus. Second of the six events to highlight the evening's circus will be fire building with a team of two boys from each troop or post. Boys will furnish their own material ma-terial and use flint and steel to get a blaze. Signaling will be by Morse code with four boys on the team. Each station of two boys will both send and receive a message by wigway. A unit may enter four two-boy teams in the first aid event. All four events will occur at the same time and each event will see the team given one of the following first-aid problems: artificial respiration, res-piration, burns, sprains," bleeding, fractures, poisoning, tick bites, poison snake bite, and most bleeding. bleed-ing. With teams of five boys from each unit, the knot relay will see plenty of action. Boys will be required re-quired to run a short distance, tie the knot and "return to their line. Knots to be used will include: square, sheepshank,, clove, double-half double-half hitch, bowline, fisherman, taut line hitch, timber hitch, slip knot and sheepbend. All Scouts and Explorers will have opportunity to participate in the balloon busting contest. Each boy will be given a balloon, a piece of string, and a rolled up newspaper. He will place the balloon, bal-loon, inflated, onto the rear of his belt. When the judge says go, he will try to break the balloon of the other boys with the rolled newspaper. When a boy has his balloon broken he must sit down, thus having been eliminated. The object is to be the last one standing. stand-ing.
