Show "News Bits About Yester-Years" 5 YEARS AGO Highest scholastic honors of the Roosevelt High School for the Year 1949-50 go to Alma Smith and Lawrence Wilson. Miss Smith will represent the graduating class as valedictorian, Mr. Wilson as saluatorian. Miss Simth is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alma Smith of Bridgeland. Mr. Wilson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Seth Wilson of Roosevelt. Lawrence has been chosen to represent the school, April 22-25, at the annual youth convention sponsored by the Salt Lake Rotary Rot-ary Club. The Roosevelt BPW held their annual installation banquet Wednesday Wed-nesday evening, April 12, at the Frontier Grill, with Mrs. Donna Swain, Mrs. Nida Harrison and Mrs. Cam Harmston in charge of arrangemets. Istalled officers for the coming year were Mrs. Myrtle Lambert, president; Mrs. Lurrine Blaine, vice-president; Mrs. Florence Pond, secretary; and Mrs. Wanda Riggle, Neola, treasurer. Virgie Murphy's dramatics class from Roosevelt High School went to Salt Lake City, Thursday, to see the U. of U. production, "The Taming of the Shrew." Ken Nickell, of Roosevelt, walked walk-ed away with the senior division Junior Pentathlon honors Friday at Roosevelt High School. Jimmy Grant, of Duchesne, placed first in the junior division. 10 YEARS AGO President Franklin D. Roosevelt Roose-velt died suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage at 4:35 p.m. EWT April 12, and Harry S. Truman was sworn in at 7:08 p.m. as the 32nd president of the United States. Mr. Roosevelt, the first man ever to serve more than 2 terms as president, died in the "Litte House" at Warm Springs, Ga. as armies he helped to muster drove toward final victory over Nazi Germany. Keith Todd, Slc, returned to his bace at Alameda, Calif., April 17, after having spent an 8-day leave here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Todd. Final plans for the second annual an-nual Activities Day were completed complet-ed at a special Basin Principals' Association meeting on April 4. , The two day program is to be held in Roosevelt April 26 and 27, and is under the direction of Principal Avard A. Rigby. Chairmen of the various activities in which the six Uintah Basin schools will participate partici-pate are as follows: Commerce, Mrs. Jean Litster, music, Bennie Schmiett; speech-arts, LeRoi Jones and track and field, Cecil Jenkins. 20 YEARS AGO The Roosevelt High School band blossomed out in their new uni-: forms Wednesday evening, paraded parad-ed down Main Street and gave an excellent concert at the Roosevelt Roose-velt Amusement hall. Thursday morning they left for Provo to enter the contest of the bands of the state. Harold Bateman is to be complimented com-plimented on the excellent showing show-ing the band is making.
