Show Awarded Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal Pfc. Carl V. Blanchard of Roosevelt has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for gallantry in action at Bougainville. "Engaged "En-gaged in a fire with the enemy, "the citation states", Private First Class Blanchard, exposing himself to enemy fire, courageously coura-geously closed on an active enemy en-emy pillbox, discharged his anti-" tank grenades, and destroyed the pillbox". PFC Blanchard has also been awarded the Purple Heart. He has been in the army one year and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Blanchard of Roosevelt. The American Division made the first offensive against the axis on any front for the Army attacking and defeating the Japs on Guadalcanal, Guadalcan-al, Solomon Islands, as it has more recently on Bougainville. |
