Show ROOSEVELT FISH AiiD GAl'it CLUBS STAGE SUCCESSFUL BANQUET, DANCE AHD OUTSNG Commission Agree To Develop Holding Ponds At Whiterocks Hatfihery The Roosevelt Wildlife Conservation Con-servation Club and Women's Fish and Game Club, entertained the Stale Fish and Game officials Saturday and Sunday. Banquet and Dance A splendid banquet meeting was held Saturday evening at the American Legion Barracks, presided pre-sided over by Albert Crumbo, president of the Wildlife Conservation Con-servation club of Roosevelt and Mrs. Parley Rawlings, president ; of the Women's Fish and Game club. Officers and directors of each club played host and hostess to the following state officials: E. N. Larson, Jack Clay and Geo. II. Harrison, fish and game commissioners; com-missioners; Ross Leonard, director; direct-or; Marion Madseh who is in charge of fisheries of the state; and Armond F. Carr, finance director di-rector for the department. Henry Slaugh, Dave Thomas and Carl Hacking, game wardens for the Uintah Basin were also in attendance. at-tendance. Commissioner Harrison after introducing the guests, explained the nature and purpose of the meeting. He stated the desire of the Uintah Basin sportsmen, was to bring back the stream fishing to years gone by. He named over the many fresh water streams located lo-cated in Uintah Basin and felt-that felt-that it was high time that holding hold-ing ponds, for the planting of fingerlings instead of dumping them into the swift streams where 60 per cent of them never survived. . Sportsman's Paradise Commissioners Larson and Clay were high in praise of the great possibilities for this section sec-tion of the state and promised to do all in their power to develop both fish and game in this section. sec-tion. Director Leonard and Mr. Madsen, explained that the department de-partment had agreed on one thing definitely in regards to the planting and stocking of streams, and that was the domination of the planting of small fryers. Director Di-rector Leonard said they had set up an extensive program for holding ponds. After the banquet a sportsman's sports-man's dance was held at Victory Park, which was very successful and well attended. Trip Made Sunday Sunday morning, both clubs escorted the officials on a trip to Uintah canyon, Pole Creek and Whiterocks hatchery. The day was spent in looking over several holding pond sites and natural beaver ponds. New Hatchery Praised The conclusion of the trip was made to the Whiterocks Fish hatchery just recently completed and in operation. Several new cement ponds are to be built to handle fingerlings as well as other improvements to be made. Holding Pond Site It was finally decided by both organizations, that providing the Uintah county group, as well as the east end of Duchesne county, would curtail any development for holding ponds that they would go with them and request the complete development of holding ponds at the Whiterocks hatchery, which would make it one of the finest in the entire state set-up. Mr. Madsen stated that the new hatchery could now produce three times the amount of the old one, and if at least five or six more holding ponds were developed de-veloped that it would not take long to develop it on a par with the Midview hatchery, one of the largest in the intermountain country. |
